Kerala State Award for Malappuram District Co-Operative Hospital

In recognition of its model COVID-19 response, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) honoured PMSA Memorial Malappuram District Co-Operative Hospital with a special award. The IMA State President-Elect Dr. Samuel Koshy handed over the award to Hospital Secretary Saheer Kalady.

The hospital provided fully free COVID treatment along with affordable super-specialty care for ordinary citizens. In 2021 it implemented the latest and most advanced treatment systems and programs at rapid pace — all reasons the IMA selected it for the honour.

A free COVID treatment centre has been running at Malappuram Town Hall for nearly two months, providing ventilator-equipped ICU, ten oxygen-supported beds and a total of 35 beds. More than 200 COVID patients have already received completely free inpatient treatment — making it the only co-operative hospital in the state to do so.

Medicines, lab tests, ECG, food, X-ray and round-the-clock doctors, nursing and paramedical staff are all provided free of charge. Treatment that would cost ₹10,000–₹30,000 in a private hospital is provided here completely free — a benchmark service for the health sector of Malappuram district.
